One day I received a call from a former colleague. I’d learned from Facebook that her husband was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. In a short time, he’d undergone countless surgeries and treatment but the cancer persisted. This once vibrant and energetic man, now a shell of himself but still determined to be a provider for his faithful wife. 

A few years prior to the diagnosis, they sold their family home and decided to rent in preparation to retire abroad. Because of the new circumstances, that plan was off the table and it was really important to him that they find a new home for her to be settled in before he transitioned. 

During our time together, I watched as she lovingly cared for and considered her dying husband in every detail of the process. I had a front row as he helped her make decisions and prepare for a life that she would live without him. She and I looked at every detail of each home and carefully selected the one that she knew he would eventually die in. It was a very somber yet beautiful experience as I watched them live out their wedding vows in real time.  They purchased their home in July and he went home to be with the Lord in November.

Being a realtor is so much more than opening doors and writing contracts. In your role, you will be invited to do life with people and help them navigate as they open and close chapters. 

Some of these chapters are happy —expanding a family, relocating to a new city, moving into your dream home. And some are not, like preparing to say goodbye to a husband of 25 years. 

Whatever the chapter, God has chosen us to come alongside and partner with Him to love and care for his children. 

In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Your work allows you to be a light to others, demonstrating God’s love through your actions and care. By serving your clients with compassion and integrity, you reflect God’s love and bring glory to Him.
