And he asked them, “What are you arguing about with them?” And someone from the crowd answered him, “Teacher, I brought my son to you, for he has a spirit that makes him mute. And whenever it seizes him, it throws him down, and he foams and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid. So I asked your disciples to cast it out, and they were not able.”
– Mark 9:16-18
Jesus was walking towards a crowd and saw a lot of commotion. When he asked what the fuss was about, a man came forward and said that he brought his son to Jesus to be healed. His son had been afflicted by a terrible spirit from childhood that caused him to become like an untamed animal. The father was grief stricken and scared for his son’s life.
After reading this familiar story something stood out to me. If he brought the child to Jesus, why did he ask the disciples to heal him?
❓ Was Jesus taking too long to come?
❓ Did he get impatient?
❓ Did the disciples seem like an easier option?
He knew that Jesus was what he needed but he tried something else—and ended up frustrated and at the center of commotion.
This made me think about us as realtors.
Oftentimes we know what we need to do to grow our businesses.
✅ Seek God.
✅ Develop the right habits.
✅ Lead generate.
🔁 Repeat.
But instead of doing that, we try everything else, then get disappointed when we don’t get the results that we desperately desire.
The father sought healing for his son from the disciples instead of waiting for Jesus, leading to frustration and commotion. As realtors, we often know the right steps—seeking God, developing good habits, and consistently lead generating—but we get impatient and try quick fixes.
Like the disciples who couldn’t cast out the spirit, these shortcuts leave us disappointed. The lesson is clear: don’t settle for less. Trust God’s timing, stay focused on what you know works, and avoid the chaos that comes from chasing after the wrong solutions. The right path, though challenging, brings lasting success.
Let’s pray:
Dear God, Help me to seek you and your ways for my life and my business. Sometimes growth seems slow and I get impatient. Please show me how to trust your timing and to stay diligent with the activities that I already know to do. I trust that You have called me to this business and ask that you keep my focus on you as I respond to the call. In Jesus Name… Amen
