One day, I was hosting an open house when a gentleman walked through the door. As soon as I saw him, I knew something was off. His eyes were glassy, his words were slurred, and he appeared disheveled. My instincts immediately kicked in, telling me to stay near the front door so I could have quick access to an exit if needed.
He spent a lot of time upstairs, asking questions that normally would have prompted me to go up and answer them. But instead, I stayed put, keeping a safe distance and taking precautions to protect myself. At that moment, I silently prayed for God to be a hedge of protection around me, knowing that I needed His presence to guard me against whatever might happen next.
In situations like these, it’s easy to feel helpless. As realtors, we meet countless people, and while most of them mean no harm, there are always moments when we feel a sense of unease or even danger. Just as God uses people to accomplish His will, the enemy can use others to carry out his schemes against us. It’s a part of life we have to be mindful of.But here’s the reassurance: while the enemy may have plans to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10), his schemes will not succeed. God’s Word tells us, “No weapon that is fashioned against you shall succeed” (Isaiah 54:17, ESV). Even when we face unsettling moments, we are not powerless. We have the power of prayer, and God’s promises to be our protector.
Each day, before stepping out, cover yourself in prayer. Ask for God’s protection:
- Protection against fake prospects with harmful intentions.
- Protection from entering into damaging business partnerships.
- Protection from those who may slander or seek to undermine your success.
Declare God’s Word over every situation and trust that He is guarding you. Just as I prayed that day at the open house, ask Him to be a fence around you. His Word says, “The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore” (Psalm 121:7-8, ESV).
When we call on Him, God is faithful to protect us. The enemy’s plans cannot stand when we trust in the power of our Protector. Lift up His Word over every scheme, and rest in the assurance that you are never alone.
Jesus is always with you, protecting, guiding, and guarding every step you take. Trust Him to be your hedge of protection every day.
