Today is Barbara Jean’s birthday. 

Barbara Jean is my mom and in December 2021, she left this Earth to meet Jesus face to face. There isn’t a day that I don’t think about her or a day that my heart hasn’t felt broken. Living in this world without her sometimes feels foreign to me. Like I am on a tour without a guide. 

Throughout my life, she gave me many gifts, always making sure that I was taken care of—but the best gift she ever gave me was Jesus.

From as long as I could remember, she always tell me “Baby, you gotta know God for yourself”.

She raised me in church and modeled what having faith looked like. When I became an adult and didn’t always prioritize going, she would call and say “Baby, get into the house of the Lord”.

When I would be stressed by the ups and downs of life, she  always said “Keep God First”.

And on her deathbed she reminded me “God is Good all the time”. She wasn’t scared of death because she knew that her true reward was in Heaven. 

Sometimes grief tries to overwhelm me to the point of not being able to show up for my family, my clients, my besties, or myself. Then I remember her words and hold on tight to her gift…JESUS. 

Today, on my Mama’s birthday, I’m reminded of a timeless truth found in John 3:16: ‘For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.’ Just as my mother shared the gift of Jesus with me, I now share this gift with you. Accepting Jesus as your Savior and allowing Him into your heart will change everything. Yes, life will still happen. Pain and heartbreak will still come. But He will carry you and through Him you will have everlasting life. 

To accept Him into your heart is simple. Pray these words and believe them:

Father God, thank you for your Son Jesus. Thank you for sending Him to the Earth to die for my sins so that I can have a relationship with You. I accept Him into my heart as my Lord and Savior. I believe that He died and was raised from the grave and that one day I will see Him face to face.  I choose now to turn from my sins, my self-centeredness, and every part of my life that does not please You. I choose You. I give myself to You. Amen.

I know that there is a celebration in Heaven. Not only because it’s my Mom’s birthday but because you chose Jesus today!
