HEY REAL ESTATE BESTIES!

I met Rob at an open house. He walked into one of my first listings and we hit it off immediately. He liked the house but it wasn’t a good fit so we made plans to talk later in the week for a consultation and to set up showings.

On the second showing, we found a great home that checked all of his boxes and he immediately wanted to put in an offer. I submitted the offer on a Sunday night and quickly received a verbal acceptance from the listing agent. It was late and the sellers were out to dinner but as soon as they signed she would get the executed contract over to me. Rob was so happy when I shared the news!

…Until the next day. I received a text from the agent.

The sellers received another offer on the home last night and it was considerably over our offer amount. They wanted to honor their word and sell to Rob but were now countering us at the number of the other offer, a number that I knew was out of budget.

My heart sank because I felt this perfect house slipping away from my perfect client. I picked up the phone to call Rob to give him the news. My stomach did somersaults as I scrolled for his contact to dial his number. I wasn’t ready for the disappointment on the other end and wanted to fix it all somehow.

Just as the phone started to ring I clicked it off. Rob called me back immediately but I needed to do something before I spoke to him.

I needed to pray.

I prayed for wisdom in how to handle this situation. I asked God to speak through me as I spoke to Rob. I prayed that if this house was meant for him that he would get it, and if not for God to clearly direct us to where we should be looking.

I also asked God to remove this feeling of failure that I felt in that moment and to show me how I can be a helper and advocate for my clients even in tough times.

James 1:5 says “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”

This was one of my first lessons on giving all things to God in prayer, especially in business. I know that we are taught to be superwomen and may actually believe that it’s us that is moving mountains for our clients.

But the truth is that it’s really God working through us to fulfill his will for the people we serve, his children. Today I encourage you to pray for and over all of your business dealings because God really is the only one in control. He will give us the wisdom and discernment to handle challenging situations.

Let’s Pray: Father God, please protect me from the lie that I can do everything on my own and in my power. The truth is that I depend on you for everything, including my business. Please give me the desire to bring all things to you in prayer and to seek your face and your direction in my business and my life. Thank you for choosing me to serve your children and giving me the desire to not only be their realtor but an interceder on their behalf. In Jesus Name. Amen.

By the way, Rob got the house and has been living there for 6 years. We didn’t adjust our offer but it was God’s will for him to be there. He and I remain good friends to this day.
